Mysterious things our bodies do

Why do we Hiccup? -
This is one involuntary action which our body does. That uneasy feeling we get when something is triggered in throat is what we feel a hiccup is. But in reality a hiccup is said to be generated around the diaphragm and is more concerned with our respiratory tract. But many scientists are yet to confirm the actual reason for why we get hiccups because they say there is no fixed reason why they occur.

Why do we Yawn? -
Is yawn a signal your body gives you when you feel sleepy? Sure it is! Same with me and with everyone. Yawn is a involuntary action our mouth does that is controlled by our brain. Generally, when our brain gets bored it consumes lesser oxygen, in turn takes in less blood. So when one yawns he/she takes in ample amount of air (more than the usual intake) thereby increasing the oxygen content. Also one leaves out more carbon dioxide in one go. Surprisingly, yawn is contagious too.

Why do we get Goosebumps? -
Ahh those chills on your skin! Goosebumps are those that appear all over your skin when you watch a scary movie or when you feel really cold. When anxious or shocked or frightened they sprout up. Goosebumps are a result of muscle contraction under the follicles of hair on your skin. When the muscle contracts the hair stands erect. This phenomenon is more effectively observed in animals with a great amount of hair on skin. When a predator tries to attack its prey they get frightened. This causes Goosebumps on their skin which makes their hair stand to scare the predator away.
