Mother Teresa - A woman with the biggest heart, Mother Teresa was born on August 26th 1910. She was a Roman Catholic sister who founded the Missionaries of Charity which runs many hospitals and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy, tuberculosis, etc. She took her fourth vow before becoming a nun as “Whole-hearted service to the poorest of the poor”. She was a Recipient of Padma Shri, Ramon Magasasay Award, and also the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize in the year 1979. A true example that a woman has immense patience and the courage to sacrifice life for others.



A voice in which God resides


M. S. Subbalaksmi - She was a woman whose reign in the classical singing still continues though she is no more. This carnatic vocalist was born on September 16th 1916 in Tamil Nadu. Her magical voice made the then Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru to admit that she is the ‘Queen of Music’. Her service to the field of music is unforgettable. She sang many bhajans which included Bhaja Govindam, Vishnu Sahasranama, Venkatesha Suprabhatm, etc. She was the first musician in India to receive the Bharat Ratna. He was also the recipient of Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Ramon Magasasay Award, etc. An example that a woman can soothe anyone with her mesmerizing voice.

The Iron Lady of India


Indira Gandhi - She was the woman who shook the entire country with her power when women were not allowed out of the house. Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi was born on November 19th 1917, the first woman Prime Minister of Independent India. She contributed a lot to the development of India. That was the time when she nationalized the banks, worked to eradicate agricultural poverty, etc. She developed the relations of India with the Soviet Union, the then most powerful country. She was assassinated by her two own Sikh body guards in revenge for the attack on Amritsar. She sets an example that women can create history in politics too.

Kiran Bedi - Taking her name itself instills a lot of courage in us. Kiran Bedi was the first woman to join the Indian Police Service. She was born on June 9th 1949. She was one of the most renowned police officers who dedicated her entire life to the service of public. She made many changes to the traffic control management, VIP security, and brought several reforms in the way prisons are managed. She bagged many awards like the Ramon Magasasay award, President’s Gallantry award, Woman of the year, etc. She will never be forgotten and will always stand as an example of a self-dependent woman.

The entire earth was beneath her feet


Bachendri Pal - The first Indian woman to summit the Mount Everest, she stunned the entire country with her undeterred determination. She was born on March 23rd 1953. Mountaineering is never an easy task. But she never saw the hurdles ahead as her focus was only the tip of this giant peak. She always believed that if one door closes, many others will open. Undoubtedly she got into the Guinness Book of World records apart from winning the Arjuna and Padma Shri awards from the Government of India. She is the best example of immense focus and also that a woman is extremely strong.

Indra Nooyi - A woman from India ruling a US company, PepsiCo! Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi is one of the highest ranked women in America. This Indian-born was born on 28th October 1955 in Tamil Nadu. She is currently the first female CEO of the fourth largest company of the world, PepsiCo. She designed many strategies to shoot up the status of the company to great heights. PepsiCo is the parent company of Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Tropicana, Quaker Oats, etc. And this happened under the leadership of this amazing woman. She consistently retained her name in the top 100 names of Forbes and is also one of the most influential businesswomen in America. A beautiful example that shows a woman is an extremely efficient leader.

Arundhati Roy - They say writings convey a very effective message and Arundhati Roy is born with this great gift. She was born on November 24th 1961 in Meghalaya. Her novel, The God of Small Things won the prestigious Booker Prize. She concentrated her writings only on non-fiction and political aspects of the country. They led to many controversies though. But his didn’t stop her. She brought into light the happenings in the country too. Her words have a sense of truth. She conducted many social campaigns for which she became more famous. She stands as an example of success being a risk-taker and also that a woman can achieve her dreams, come what may!

Sky is just not the limit for her


Kalpana Chawla - The first Indian-born woman in space. She made the country proud as being an astronaut isn’t an easy feat. Born on March 17th 1962, she is an inspiration for the young women of the country. After being chosen for the astronaut program in 1994, she was selected for her first flight in 1996. On her mission Space Shuttle Columbia, a disaster occurred when the vehicle returned in to the earth’s atmosphere. It got burnt due to the hot gases in the environment and this killed the entire crew of seven members. She is a legend who said “You are your intelligence” and is an example that a woman is fearless when she is close to her passion.

Vidya Balan - A female hero who is known to portray the strength of women in her roles. Vidya Balan was a Kerala-born on January 1st 1978. She faced many difficulties in kick-starting her career. Her first Hindi movie, Parineeta gained huge success and brought her the fame which she wanted. Since then she focused more on female-oriented movies. She supports many humanitarian causes and supports women empowerment. She bagged many awards like National award, Filmfare awards, Screen awards, etc. She is an example of boldness and a woman of great integrity.

Saina Nehwal - She brought a medal for India in Badminton at the Olympics. This Haryani-laundiya was born on March 17th 1990. She attained her career’s best ranking on number 2 in December 2010. She represented India in many international tournaments and brought fame to the country. She was regarded as the ambassador of Commonwealth 2010. She is a recipient of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Padma Shri and Arjuna award from the Government of India. An excellent example of great determination and concentration and also that a woman is can surely be a sport-star too.
