3G Vs Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi and 3g are two types of wireless data networks providing high speed internet services. The major difference between them is the way they connect to the internet.
3g is a cellular network and connects to the internet wherever there is a mobile service. It has wide range till mobile service is available. But accessing internet through 3G data is much costlier especially when one is travelling overseas and international roaming charges are applied.
Wi-Fi connects you to the internet through a wireless network but has very short range. It is available till the vicinity of the computer router only. Wi-Fi networks are available in the colleges, airports and companies.
While reviewing these both in different aspects both have their pros and cons
Range:
As service providers have multiple cell towers in cities, town and highways so 3G covers much wider areas whereas Wi-Fi is confined to a range of 150 to 230 ft and gradually strength fades away as you move away from the router.
Speed:
Improvements in Wi-Fi have increased the speed to 150 mbps and future Wi-Fi standards may exceed 1 gbps. A new standard and evolution data has a peak download speed of 3.1mbps averaging 1.2mbps.
Mobility:
A 3G speed depends on if you are moving or stationary. While moving your connection may not be better than 348kbps.These doesn’t apply to Wi-Fi because the range is limited to a few hundred feet.
In Everyday Use:
In day to day use you may switch between 3g and Wi-Fi. Early in the morning you may use your home Wi-Fi network.
When you move to office or college as Wi-Fi network is lost and you will automatically turn on your 3G data.
On reaching if there is Wi-Fi available you will turn off the 3g and Wi-Fi will be connected.
Since 3G data is expensive than the Wi-Fi it is best to use the Wi-Fi network. But when there is no Wi-Fi enabled area you don’t have any choice expect using 3G.
